This astonishing large iridescent top grade Covellite cabochon is a prime example of this beautiful and highly prized material displaying the typical metallic indigo blue color with amazing patterns of Pyrite running through the stone and Stellar iridescent flashes of purplish fuscia. It does a few tiny pits in it, but this is common, particularly in this high quality material with the pyrite in particular, and I have left them rather than filling them with an epoxy resin to maintain the natural quality of this cab. This material is one of my favorites and always draws great attention when I create jewelry from it. It would also be a top shelf collector's stone!
Covellite Designer Cut Cabochon
45.2 x 28.6 x 6mm
85.20 cts.
I cut this cab by hand and it's been polished to a mirror sheen to show the metallic quality of the Covelite. The Pyrite inclusions contrast with more of a satin finish, giving contrast in both color and finish to create an absolutely astonishing stone.
Covellite is a copper mineral that exhibits a unique iridescence, with strong metallic blue and sometimes purple colors. Iridescent Covellite is highly prized among collectors, especially when in rare crystallized form. Covellite is named after Niccolo Covelli, an Italian mineralogist who first discovered this mineral.
