From some older stock I was able to get my hands on recently, this fantastic "old school" cab of Ocean Jasper has great green and orbs rimmed in an outlining of white with clouds of green and deep red, and has some nice translucence. I've cut this stone with a medium high dome, girdled sides and a flat but slightly beveled bottom. This one of a kind Ocean Jasper Cabochon would make a great piece of jewelry.
Ocean Jasper Designer Cut Cabochon
34.5 x 28.7 x 6.4mm

I cut this cab by hand and it's been polished to a high sheen both front and back with slightly rounded bottom edges for easy setting.
Note that all my photos were taken using full spectrum lighting, which does fairly well in replicating natural sunlight. However, almost all cut stones will look best and brightest in direct sunlight.
A fairly new entry to the market introduced in 2000, Ocean Jasper has quickly become a highly prized material. It is truly a unique stone, with its distinct spherical inclusions, originating as spheres of silica rich magma, in a translucent base. The name of "Ocean Jasper" is truly dually descriptive because it was found along the northwest seacoast of Madagascar (only collected at low tide) and they felt that it was "suggestive of the bubbling surf of the sea."
