Tiffany Stone (a/k/a Bertrandite) Designer Cut Cabochon

This Tiffany Stone (also referred to as Opalite, Bertrandite or Opalized Fluorite) has a great pattern of Purples and White. I've cut this stone with a slightly high dome, girdled sides and a slightly beveled back. This incredible one-of-a-kind treasure would make a beautiful piece of jewelry.

I cut this cab by hand and it's been polished both front and back with slightly rounded bottom edges for easy setting.

Note that all my photos were taken using full spectrum lighting, which does fairly well in replicating natural sunlight. However, almost all cut stones will look best and brightest in direct sunlight.

This rare and beautiful stone has more names than any other I've encountered. It is known as Tiffany Stone, Opalite, Bertrandite, Purple Opal, Ice Cream Opalite, Opal Fluorite and Opalized Fluorite. The last one is the most accurate, as it is basically opalized fluorite found in nodules in various beryllium mines in Utah.
