Cobaltoan Smithsonite (a/k/a Cobalt-bearing Smithsonite) from Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Oshikoto Region, Namibia

Druze of sharp rhombohedral Smithsonite crystals with well-defined faces and edges, translucent, with good luster and a clear beautiful pink color on a matrix containing Galena. An excellent Tsumeb classic, of good size and quality.

Note that the name is for pink smithsonite previously believed to be a Co-bearing variety of Smithsonite.
Originally described from Santa Rosalía (El Boleó), Boleó District, Mun. de Mulegé, Baja California Sur, Mexico. Bob Meyer and other researchers noted that most pink smithsonite does not contain significant Co; Mn or Fe may be the chromophore in some cases at least.
