The bold patterns and great mirror polish in nicely domed cabochon show some of the reasons why Imperial Jasper is so highly prized. The coloring in this is also wonderful and rich that I would call a deep rose reddish mauve (so something of a red/lavender/grey). I cut this stone out of a nodule of Imperial Jasper that I've had sitting around for years. When I finally got around to cutting into it, I was thrilled with what showed up. These patterns, ranging from dreamy storm clouds, to winter tree limbs like this one are just incredible and the color is deep and rich. I'll definitely be cutting some for my own jewelry, but am happy to be able to offer some here also.
Imperial Jasper Designer Cut Cabochon
31.9 x 30.3 x 8.2mm
I cut this cab by hand and it's been polished to a high polish both front and back with slightly rounded bottom edges for easy setting.
Imperial Jasper forms in nodules, usually with a chalky white covering that must be removed to reveal the jasper. Although there are many varieties, it is one of the highly prized jaspers on the market today. Colors range from reds and greens, to pinks, greys, tans and other earthy tones.
