Very Rare Collector Quality Orpheus Agate Designer Cut Cabochon

Orpheus Agate has been a stone that continues to absolutely astound me with its surprising and utterly unique beauty. I've cut more Orpheus Agate than any other stone and it always seems to either crush my spirit or lift me to the clouds. It can be as unforgiving as it gets, but the rewarding moments are beyond description. This cab is one of those that allowed me to bring it's beauty fully out to the world, showing off the rarest of red plumes and golden plumes perfectly presented in a crystal clear pocket bordered with bands of gold and green. Nature just completely showing off. I couldn't ask for more! There are perhaps many stones that I’ve cut over the years that may be more beautiful from a novice point of view, but it is the insane rarity and unexpectedness of this one is that makes it beyond words. This one-of-a-kind collector quality stone definitely deserves to be showcased, whether in jewelry or as a uniquely gorgeous specimen treasured in a collector's display!

I cut this cab by hand and it's been polished to a mirror polish both front and back with slightly rounded bottom edges for easy setting.

This rare agate comes from Kardzhali - Bulgaria. In 2004 the Agate exhibition in Munich found that Orpheus agate is unique in the world. Named after the ancient legendary Greek musical hero who frolicked in the area where the deposit is located. This unusual and rare stone from Bulgaria can be comprised of many layers of beautiful green Seladonit and golden yellow/brown jasper with some pockets of clear agate, with, on rare occasions, beautiful plumes within the clear agate.
