Bumble Bee Jasper Designer Cut Cabochon, Designer Cabochons

This large eye-catching nicely domed cab of brilliant orange, yellow, black and wispy whites, with a couple small contrasting orbs, is a great example of the perfectly named Bumble Bee Jasper from Indonesia, collected near the hot steaming calderas of an active volcano, giving an evocative image to the yellow-orange plumes in this cabochon. Dangerous to collect in its raw form and also to cut, I use protective gloves and a face mask to cut it as it contains arsenic. Safe to wear and touch in this highly polished state, it creates an appealing contrast in its design, and will definitely make a remarkable one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry!

Note that, as you can see in the picture, there are a few tiny pits in this cab, which is common in this material, but they are very minor, not really noticeable and actually keep the organic character of the material in tact.

I cut this cab by hand and it's been polished to a glossy polish both front and back with slightly rounded bottom edges for easy setting.

Note that all my photos were taken using full spectrum lighting, which does fairly well in replicating natural sunlight. However, almost all cut stones will look best and brightest in direct sunlight.
