The bold patterns and great mirror polish show some of the reasons why Imperial Jasper is so highly prized. This cabochon also shows off some translucence with earthy sage green in variegated shades and ribbons of maroon with a light cream shades contrasting. I've cut this cabochon with a low dome to enhance the translucency of the stone, with girdled slightly angled sides and a flat slightly beveled back. It will make a truly stand out piece of jewelry.
Imperial Jasper Designer Cut Cabochon
48.7 x 19.7 x 4.3mm
I cut this cab by hand and it's been polished to a high polish both front and back with slightly rounded bottom edges for easy setting.
Note that all my photos were taken using full spectrum lighting, which does fairly well in replicating natural sunlight. However, almost all cut stones will look best and brightest in direct sunlight.
Imperial Jasper forms in nodules, usually with a chalky white covering that must be removed to reveal the jasper. Although there are many varieties, it is one of the highly prized jaspers on the market today. Colors range from reds and greens, to pinks, greys, tans and other earthy tones.
