Kaleidoscope Prism Stone Designer Cabochon
31.2 x 28.8 x 6.1mm
NOTE that the colors in the Kaleidoscope Prism Stone (as with pretty much any stone) will appear brightest in sunlight and may appear more muted in indoor lighting. The prismatic effect is definitely going to appear best in natural sunlight. Since photography outdoors in northern Illinois often presents problematic issues, I photograph all my items indoors with "sunlight" bulbs as to get the most accurate colors I can ;)
I cut this cab by hand and it's been polished to a high sheen both front and back with slightly beveled bottom edges for easy setting.
Kaleidoscope Prism Stone (YES, it is naturally occurring) from Utah is a relative newcomer to the lapidary and jewelry scene. Also now more commonly being referred to as Kaleidoscope Agate*, it really isn't agate at all, but prismatic Flourite and and Common Opal, with the higher grade material containing inclusions of other colorful minerals including Malachite, Chrysocolla, Amethyst, Agate and other trace minerals like Cuprite between the lines of the Flourite prisms and less of the common opal. The lines in the stone are healed stress fractures, which are what create that "prismatic" effect and make this such a unique and beautiful treasure.
