Rarely seen, Bone Jasper from Arizona is so-called because it resembles fossilized dinosaur bone in appearance. However, this is not a fossil, but a Jasper; fossil dino bone is actually agatized. This is essentially a "brecciated" jasper, but the breccia pattern is much smaller, thus the resemblance to fossilized bone. This fantastic cab shows off the earthy tones of golden tan with the dark spider-webbing pattern typical of this material. Definitely eye-catching and unusual. Great inspiration for your next project.
Bone Jasper Designer Cut Cabochon
36.6 x 27.6 x 6.3mm
42.74 cts.
I cut this cab by hand and it's been polished to a high sheen both front and back with slightly rounded bottom edges for easy setting. As with all of this material, it does have a few very small natural pits, but these do not distract from the aesthetic and actually add a bit of interest.
Note that all my photos were taken using full spectrum lighting, which does fairly well in replicating natural sunlight. However, almost all cut stones will look best and brightest in direct sunlight.
